using mapping and visualization strategies to understand stakeholders, block structure, and ownership overtime near our site in Mission Hill.
starting with stakeholders, we worked to understand what services people have available to them already within their network, and the interactions between different groups present on site.
studying block structure overtime reveals the larger interventions that have been made in the area. Generally - 1931 shows institutional expansion beginning, 1969 shows urban renewal through new public housing projects, 1972 reveals the massive amount of destruction that was done for the proposed highway project, and 1995 tells about the infilling of that destruction with the community college and SW corridor.
finally ending with ownership, the changes from 1931 to 2020 are staggering, with mainly private owners in the 1930's, and shifting to a majority of universities, developers, and city-owned land in the neighborhoods near our site. below is map of the zoning in on the site to understand the relevant guidelines and requirements for building in this area
