an urban design framework devoted to layers of community, and flexibility.
this is in direct response to the grand auteurs that had changed this site in the past, including eminent domain for highways, Wentworth, and public housing projects. utilizing a phased approach, this project would prioritize community engagement to learn about needs and desires and develop infrastructure to be later built on, and filled in by developers according to a set of guidelines.
the following is one potential assembly of the neighborhood units, community units, and courtyard uses that could exist on the site. I wanted to maintain as much flexibility based on community feedback, and in order to do that I made sure that all the typologies and courtyards could be shuffled to create new site conditions.
transects to establish guidelines that apply to each housing typology and test out the different access and communal aspects of each of them. they also test different courtyard infill options, and how the internal and external pathways function differently.
using perspectives to understand the public realm and the courtyard experiences. this built an understanding of how to activate all of the smaller leftover spaces around the buildings and encouraged experimentation.
