Belmont Village
January - August 2022 | Work completed at Bargmann Hendrie + Archetype

This large-scale housing project was completed on behalf of the Belmont Housing Authority. The existing 100-unit public housing project was in poor condition, and we studied both renovation and new build schemes to increase the density on-site and provide elderly units in addition to the family-sized units that were already on site.

Existing Site // Below is the existing site plan, as well as plans of the two existing building types on site.

Site Plan Options // To meet the desired mix of elderly and family units, target parking ratio, and balance the bedroom counts as desired across family units, several plans were made based on different amounts of redevelopment. Parking was the most difficult element to accommodate, given the street layout and the focus on creating desirable green spaces for residents.

Building Typologies
// Rather than only showing plans with double-loaded corridor buildings, I had initially convinced the principal in charge to present a plan with a rowhouse typology. The client thought that row houses and smaller typologies was a good idea given the neighborhood context, so we were able to move ahead with more varied building typologies, some of which are seen below.
