Decontextualized Mapping
Ongoing | Personal endeavor

Decontextualizing and recontextualizing the city by looking only at routes I travel. I have been mapping my daily walks (black) and train/car trips (red) to see how long it takes for the City of Boston’s map to emerge from these somewhat meaningless lines. This began as an endeavor to pay more attention to my surroundings, and explore more of the city, but has devolved into a somewhat obsessive practice of tracing and retracing the city streets.

Click through to layer the paths of one day, one week, seven weeks and a year.

Click through to isolate trips taken on foot or in a vehicle.

Daily paths do not reveal much, the abstract lines must be stacked to have any meaning

Even weekly paths do not show much of the city, but slowly build up to tell a more clear story.
