The site // Located in Downtown Madrid, and embedded in a rich urban fabric, the corners of the massing are chamfered to protect sight lines and preserve the existing peripheral circualtion around the edges of the existing plaza. A central portal, aligned with an existing crosswalk, pulls visitors into the center of the massing and down to an exterior sunken courtyard, and also launches them up into either of the two pathways.

// The circulation-driven scheme separates quiet exhibition spaces from the noisy workshops and studios. inspired by the tension and use of negative space in the works of Donald Judd, slots are carved into the building, creating visual connections between the exhibition and studio branches, while maintaining acoustical separation. these two pathways only meet at the ground floor and at the top of the building.

// The monolithic exterior mesh emphasizes the intricacies of the form during the day. the placement of windows strategically aligns with the circulation that wraps the building, so that when the building is illuminated at night, the circulation is revealed.
