January 2022- August 2022 | Work completed at Bargmann Hendrie + Archetype
During my co-op at Bargmann Hendrie + Archetype, the firm was selected to perform an existing conditions analysis of a section of Mildred C. Hailey. This public housing project, originally called Bromley-Heath, was built in the 1940’s, and has undergone many different renovation projects, combining and reconfiguring units. The documentation of these projects was not compiled anywhere except an Excel spreadsheet, which is what we primarily used to establish baseline unit plans for all 18 buildings on site.
Primary analysis // Below are diagrams that we used to compile the Excel information in one place. Using section diagrams for each building, we were able to identify units that had likely been combined both horizontally and vertically.
Secondary Analysis // After establishing a baseline understanding, we created plans of the units using historical plans, which we printed and brought to the site. During site visits we visited two to three units per floor, measuring, photographing, and sketching the interior layouts of the units, which we then compiled into a drawing set of the 91 different unit types that we established across the site. Sample plans of twenty-eight units are shown below.
